Workshop Wonders

While the weather has since said goodbye to the scorching summer heat and hello to more cooler autumnal rain, I have been busy working on a number of projects in the Sanstec workshop.

Those of you who know me will acknowledge that I have a long-standing passion for classic cars and have recently been working on a number of vehicles. As most of you will appreciate, with older cars replacing the broken, rusted or decayed parts becomes more difficult, in fact sometimes impossible, to physically buy off the shelf from car dealers or from eBay etc. As a mechanical design engineer, with expertise particularly with injection moulded components, I make some of my own parts and tools. I relish the challenge of systematically working through these problems and coming up with solutions to fix issues.

To this end we keep a lot of items stored in the workshop which comes in very handy for times like these. For example, we recently created and built a test rig for a client, that was constructed for a one off set of testing using tools and bits of material that we had lying around the workshop. Everything was sourced from our workshop apart from the wood paint and some additional fixings that had to be bought. It was a bit rudimentary but served its purpose well. After the testing we set aside the materials for other things, as we always like to recycle or reuse items if we can.

It’s been a hive of engineering activity at the Sanstec workshop. What wonders can we create next?
