How many times have you heard the phrase “don’t sweat the small stuff”? These words could have been spoken to encourage you, or those around you, to disregard those issues that could be considered to be unimportant, compared to the bigger picture and other things going on in the world. However, speaking as a mechanical design engineer who has to constantly drill down to the minutest of detail, I’m afraid the small print and anything else considered to be microscopic, is most definitely not thought insignificant, but very, very important.
Over the twenty-five years Sanstec Design has been operating, we have accrued experience with various industries and disciplines. Many of our clients have relied upon the process of injection moulding to produce a variety of components. More often than not, this means we are working with very small parts that require careful handling and deliberation throughout the entire design and development process. This includes the plastic selected, which has to be carefully considered, to ensure that not only the performance of the component is achieved, but the limitations of the material are not exceeded. Another area that can be impacted by the most subtle design change or smallest alteration to a product’s already tiny dimensions is the workability and feasibility of the overall design. Furthermore, the smaller the parts, the more technically challenging it can be to practically produce a suitable mould for manufacturing.
We have accumulated a great deal of experience with micro moulding and our competency in this area speaks for itself. Generally, although a great number of us believe it to be a small world, we are certainly very happy to be living and working in it.
