It certainly is really scary how quickly time passes. We came to the realisation the other day that we have been in the new Sanstec workshop for almost a year. It only seems like yesterday when we were having to safely pack tools and machinery in preparation for the move to another premises.
The cost of relocating was indeed considerable, both in terms of time and money. A lot of clearing and sorting was undertaken prior to the move and has since been done whilst settling in. A number of new specific task benches have been created, which means we can undertake engineering activities in a more appropriately organised environment. So, we are therefore delighted to have a dedicated electronics bench, an assembly bench, which is our ‘clean’ area, and a ‘dirty’ bench. All have been installed with improved LED lighting strips above, which means we have the ability to complete our desk-based engineering tasks in much better conditions.
Despite all these improvements having been undertaken, there are still a few items remaining, which need a new home. One of these is a set of boat spars and some long pieces of general materials, which had temporarily been stored on the floor of the workshop whilst a sensible solution was being sought. This situation, of course was deemed far from being ideal, and could be considered a bit of hazard not to mention generally getting in the way. The technical challenge being that the item is so long/tall, we could not store this appropriately, vertically against the current workshop racking system. So, the long and short of it is, we are therefore creating a bespoke horizontal hanging bracket system.
Sketches for the racking have already been undertaken so the next step will be to create the drawings in CAD, to be passed on to a CNC cutter to help with the nuts and bolts, so to speak. We are certainly looking forward to getting another item tidied away.
