Sometimes a day in the office can be likened to a game of snakes and ladders. One minute you are climbing up the ladder of success, doing well and with one throw of the dice, or a slip on a wet wooden rung, you find yourself sliding back down again. But life can often be like that, with hopefully, a good balance of ups and downs, or the feeling of travelling one step forward and two back.
Reaching the top of the ladder, aspiring for that career goal or sales target, is what many people strive for in their daily office lives. As a mechanical design engineering company, working in partnership with our design clients, we are constantly driving to impress or indeed wow, through our endeavours and efforts, so that we may move up the customer loyalty ladder. It is always our mission and intention to ensure our work has been completed to a high standard so that we may receive recommendations and the pièce de résistance; repeat business.
So, holding on tight to your respective ladder is an important symbol for many. But for us, it is just as vital to hang on to good people, which not only includes our clients, but our valued staff, contractors and suppliers alike. This is a particularly important strategy when dealing with design and development projects because you never know what problems you will encounter or be asked to solve. Therefore, in this industry, it is certainly prudent to surround yourself with capable, like-minded, can-do individuals.
Sometimes the waiting for a prospective enquiry to convert can take a long while. The reasons behind this time delay can range from the client needing the go-ahead to proceed with the product design and development from a ‘higher level’, or an approval for funding to come through. More often that not though, the answer is usually having to wait until a particular stage in the development cycle has been reached before we can begin our ‘CAD magic’. But engineers like me are trained to solve technical problems, to find out how exactly we can get back in the game and more importantly, on that ladder and start climbing again.
