Rain Making: It’s raining again

It’s raining again, I hear you say. It feels like it’s been non-stop raining for weeks now, surely it is time for our summer to start? In whatever business you are in, the art of rainmaking is very important, as it is the term generally used to describe the process of attracting new clients.

For most businesses, who don’t have a constant stream of repeat buyers waiting in the wings to spend their money, rainmaking or to coin another more common phrase, business development, holds the key to survival.

Bringing in new business, as I’m sure many of you will agree, can take different forms. From the pre-Covid face to face networking breakfasts, lunches and dinners, to more virtual environments such as LinkedIn and online events, where connections and interactions can and are currently taking place. There are of course other ways to promote a business such as creating and building a reputation of trust, knowledge and thought leadership through blogs and creative social and online content, etc, etc.

In generating sales or creating an opportunity or lead, the important thing is to be ready to move the prospective client along the sales pipeline. Being accessible and in a position to travel forward with a client, on their journey and at their specific speed, is what it is all about. In my world of mechanical design engineering, involved in development projects which include MedTech components and devices, it certainly has been raining on me and I very much hope the same has been happening to all my other colleagues and connections. Let’s hope that it continues to pour down on all of our heads for a while yet.
