For those of you who pay attention, close or otherwise, to the content written in our Sanstec blogs, will know that I am a consultant mechanical design engineer. But what does that actually mean? Many of our social followers will be aware that my company, Sanstec Design, is generally known for providing CAD design services. But the services we offer do not simply revolve around producing CAD per se; 'we' are definitely more than a one-trick pony.
Admittedly the CAD side of our product offering is the one that gets the most mentions and enquiries. Indeed, as previously mentioned, we are no strangers to Creo, Solidworks and Inventor software and make no secret that we keep several versions of each on our CAD workstations, so that we can use the most appropriate version for each individual client. This means that we possess the technical tools to aid our design clients, whether this be by producing an outline CAD model, from a sketch or concept design supplied, generating a concept for a product or part, or making an update to an existing design. Whatever the client requires us to do, we can step in at any time during the development cycle.
But our technical expertise and creative problem solving skills go way beyond CAD. For example, we regularly instigate innovation with concepts, ideas and the energy to start the development process, providing various options as potential routes forward for the actual design. We can support the management of the product design process, by providing consultancy at appropriate milestones. This can include the carrying out of various engineering analysis using software tools, as well as applying more practical skills to review and critique the suitability of other ideas, taking a pragmatic and balanced approach as to what is going to work.
We have successfully assisted a number of clients with their Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), by keeping track of documentation and complex information relating to the overall product development process. Plus we have aided other clients manage their costs by implementing Design for Manufacture (DFM), which focuses on producing a product or part that is more easily produced and therefore the overall cost of manufacture is reduced. We have even been known to have provided advice regarding the patent process, which we are familiar with. All of these services, we have provided as a contractor, working either remotely or at the workplace or premises of our client.
So if you are looking for a design engineer that is not a one-trick pony, but skilled in the overall product design and development cycle, then do get in touch. We’d be happy to help.
