You would be forgiven for thinking that the title of this blog has been misspelt. But, unlike the youth of today, I am not about to reveal what’s in my latest Tik Tok. Instead, I am very thankful to have experienced a prolonged period, being involved with a technically interesting and challenging mechanical design and development project. As with any contract, a huge part of my role is to continually look forward and be conscious of hitting the next project deadline. So, I have been very mindful of the background tick, tock, of the clock, hanging on the office wall.
The importance of completing these milestones on time, is that the implications of not doing so can be far-reaching not only for the project itself, but for the financial health of a business. An overstretched timeline can prove to be too costly to bear, especially if there is fierce industry competition, to get a product launched and introduced to the market.
I’m always appreciative that as a business providing design engineering business solutions to UK product manufacturers or as a subcontractor to other design companies operating outside IR35, we have a number of clients who return again and again. In order to continue to provide an excellent service, it is paramount that I spend time keeping up to date with industry changes, such as alternative materials, better processes, and newer CAD software and functionality. Thus, time management for me personally can be likened to a juggling game, which would most certainly make an entertaining visual Tik Tok for people of all ages, believe me.
